Players need Objectives and Verbs to feel involved.

They need Narrative Context to feel included.

Scaling an ancient sky-temple with a new mind-blowing traversal mechanic is awesome - but at some point, players will ask: "What compels me to continue?"

Enter, the Quest.

A slice of gratifying gameplay in perpetual harmony with meaningful story and engaging characters.

All The King's Horses

Quest Design for Fantasy/Action RPG

  • Pitch Documentation

  • Diagram Outline

Designed as an early-game quest for the sample Action RPG Beastbreaker, "All The King's Horses" finds Fiona, the titular monster hunter, fleeing the city of Druloch. To do so, she'll need a horse; only problem is, the Druloch Stable is fresh out of mounts. Desperate to take her leave, Fiona finds herself unraveling an intimate conspiracy involving stolen horses, an ailing Courier, and the uncompromising fierceness of familial love. It's an opportunity to highlight the social and moral conflicts  that are trademark to both Fiona and the game world.

Incorporating Investigation, Stealth, Combat, and Branching Narrative, "All The King's Horses" brings together mechanics and story to let players feel involved, included, and in-charge of Fiona's spiraling quest to obtain a horse.
